Marion Lake Club is on Lake James at exit 94 off I-40 then north to NC 126 located about an hour east of Asheville and 30 minutes west of Morganton.

The golf course is a hidden gem in a scenic setting, especially so in the fall with views of the Linville Gorge and Shortoff Mountain in the distance. It's a parkland design with a wide variety of interesting holes along broad, tree lined fairways. The layout meanders out on a peninsula into Lake James for several holes with a pond and Shadrick Creek intersecting several holes in addition to a sprinkling of sand traps primarily around the small greens. The golf club has been around since the 1920s, but Russell Breeden designed the existing layout in the 1950s. It's not long at just 6,390 yards from the tips, par of 70, 69.0/115, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees.
