Samoset is a golf resort set on a peninsula of the Atlantic coastline on the northeast side of Rockland.
The golf course is known as the Pebble Beach of the East as it borders 1400 yards of the Atlantic on Penobscot Bay with expansive views throughout. It's a parkland layout over level terrain along broad fairways with stands of hardwood trees at the borders. Most of the holes provide views to the Atlantic with seven holes bordering the beach. There's multiple water hazards in play and an array of sand bunkers securing the fairway landing zones and greens. The course sets up to 6,548 yards from the back tees, 70.8/133, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees. Its origins go back to 1902 as a 9 hole layout. In the mid-1970s, Bob Elder redesigned the original 9 and added a new 9 holes which were later remodeled by Geoffrey Cornish with an upgrade by Brad Booth in 2000.
