Shenny is a municipal golf course located off I-95 in Groton on the Thames River and the Long Island Sound. The golf course was originally planned as a resort on Long Island Sound by Morton Plant, but the Depression ambushed those plans and the course was eventually purchased by the City of Groton.
The golf course is over level terrain with several holes along the River and the Sound. The fairways are generally broad and straightforward save for a couple of doglegs with tall fescue rough at the margins. There's scattered trees at the fairways borders and a generous amount of sand traps defending the fairways and the small, oval or kidney shaped, raised greens. The course was initially founded in 1898 with various iterations until Donald Ross added the present layout in 1919. There's three sets of tees overall with the middle tees playing to 6,088 yards, 69.1/121 course/slope ratings.
