Stoney Creek is midway between Burlington and Greensboro, just off I-40 at Rock Creek Dairy Road to the north.

The golf course has a demanding layout that wanders through an upscale residential community with fairways bordered by old-growth and hardwood trees. There's a slight change in elevation, Rock Creek and numerous ponds crossing and bordering fairways, and a modest amount of sand bunkers along the landing zones and guarding the oval or kidney-shaped, undulating greens. The course was designed by Tom Jackson with six sets of tees, the blues play to 6,197 yards, 69.3/130 course, and slope ratings.
