The Fortress is on the south side of the Cass River off I-75 to the east in Frankenmuth.

The layout is over a large, natural tract of forested land with broad, fescue-lined fairways and massive sand bunker complexes at the fairways' landing areas, guarding the greens and numerous ponds in play. From the tips, the course plays to 6,813 yards, 73.8/140, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Dick Nugent.
