The Rail is on the north side of Springfield off Peoria Road partially within a residential community.

The golf course has been an LPGA Tour stop and is a quality parkland layout along broad, tree-lined fairways with numerous water hazards and sand traps defending the fairways and the massive green complexes. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., at 6,630 yards, 71.7/127 course/slope ratings from the tips, with three shorter tee boxes.
