The Schoolhouse Nine is an hour north of Charlottesville and an hour south of NOVA in Sperryville surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The golf course is a nine hole layout ambling through a native, wildflower meadow bordered by the Thornton River and the ruins of the original Smoot Tannery. The design features par 3 holes ranging in length from 85-171 yards located adjacent to and part of the Sperryville Schoolhouse and Headmaster’s Pub. The course was constructed on the land as it was with the only disturbance to the greens and tee areas, and provides a variety of challenges with a broad mix of green complexes. It's a throwback owing to golf's origins and was designed by Michael McMcartin who worked for Tom Doak as a shaper.
