The Wilderness is at the Fortune Bay Casino, about two hours north of Duluth.

The course has a scenic layout and setting around Lake Vermillion as it was carved through the heavy woods along rock outcroppings. While all the holes are tree-lined, there's generally plenty of room off the tee with water in play on seven holes and sand bunkering along the fairways and the tiered greens. There's some elevation change, with a few holes up on the ridge overlooking the lake and the surrounding area, with scenic views for miles. It was designed by Jeff Brauer and plays to 7,207 yards from the back tees, 75.3/142, course/slope ratings with four shorter sets of tees.
