Windy Knoll is located on a former horse farm on the north side of Springfield about 10 minutes off the I-70 exit at US 68 to the north.

The golf course is partially bordering a residential development and along US 68 with scattered trees or stands of mature hardwoods at the fairways margins. There's numerous slight and dramatic doglegs, several water features, and sand bunkers at the landing zones and securing the greens. It was designed by Brian Huntley and plays to 6,834 yards, 73.2/135, course/slope ratings from the tips with four shorter tees.
