Caledonia is on Pawleys Island, just east of the Waccamaw River.

The course wanders through low-lying natural areas without homes or development along the holes. The narrow fairways are lined with huge mature oak trees along numerous water hazards, and each hole is isolated and unique. The 18th borders the Plantation's old rice field and an appropriate finish with a forced carry to the green at the clubhouse, usually lined with players having a post-round beer and is frequently rowdy. The course plays to 6,526 yards, 72.1/140, course/slope ratings from the back tees with three shorter tees. It was designed by the late Mike Strantz, who was also responsible for True Blue, the more challenging track across the street.
