There are three Park Service Golf Courses in D.C., East Potomac, Langston, and Rock Creek, but East Potomac gets the nod from out-of-town visitors mostly for the location along the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers in the shadow of the Washington Monument.
There are 36 holes altogether, the Blue 18 hole, layout and the Red and White nines. Blue is a compact, parkland design over level terrain along tree-lined fairways with a generous amount of sand in play at the landing zones and guarding the greens. There are four sets of tees overall and the tips play to 6,599 yards, 70.5/113, course/slope ratings. The White course is a par 33, executive layout on similar terrain, and the course playsto 2,420 yards at the back tees, 31.0/98, course/slope. The Red course is a par 3 layout with holes ranging from 64 yards to 208 yards. The courses were originally designed in the early 1900s with architectural work over the years by Walter Travis, William Flynn, Walter Harban, and Robert White.
