The Golf Course at The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa is located just north of downtown Asheville off Merrion Avenue to the east.

The course is a classic, parkland layout routed over hilly terrain below the Inn and a study on course management. Teeing off at the base of Sunset Mountain, the front nine is over mostly level terrain, but the back moves over varying degrees of elevation change providing views throughout the valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The original small "Ross" greens have been enlarged and are crowned, contoured, and quick with confounding breaks and defended by deep sand bunkers. The layout can play to 6,201 yards, 69.5/125, course/slope ratings, par of 70 from the tips with three shorter sets of tees. The golf course opened for play in 1899 with architectural influences over the years from Willie Park, Jr., Donald Ross, Herbert Barker, and Russell Breeden, but Ross seems to garner the most credit.
