The James Baird State Park Golf Course is 9 miles east of Poughkeepsie just off the Taconic Parkway to the northwest.

The golf course is the dominant feature of a 500+ acre tract of rolling woodland occupying a clearing on the western portion of the park. It's generally straightforward with several gentle doglegs as it marches over rolling contours along broad fairway corridors with sand traps primarily defending the greens and ponds and streams on half the holes including an island green. It can play to 6,815 yards, 72.7/124, course/slope ratings off the back tees with two shorter tees, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
