Mauna Lani is on the north side of the Big Island, just off Queen Kaahumanu Highway. It has two 18-hole golf courses.
The North Course is through the pahoehoe or lava fields with wide fairways bordered by heavy stands of kiawe trees and more in the way of elevation change than the South Course. There's water in play on just a few holes, with a couple of holes moving along the Pacific. There are four great finishing holes, including #17, a short par 3 downhill with the green sits in a natural cove created by the lava. It was the first course here, opening in 1981 and designed by Flint, Cain, and Nelson, playing to 6,913 yards, 74.0/135, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees.
The South Course was the venue for the Senior Skins Game for several years. It journeys through lava fields with heavy rough bordering the fairways and two holes on the Pacific. It features the signature hole and one of the most photographed par 3s in the world, #15 across the Pacific. It's 6,924 yards, 73.3/127 course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees, and was designed by Flint, Cain, and Nelson as well.
