Pine Needles is on the east side of Pinehurst in Southern Pines on Midland Road near Sandhills Blvd.

The golf course is a traditional parkland layout carved through the pine forest surrounding an established residential community with the homes generally blocked by the pine trees. There's several water hazards in play and sand bunkers defending some of the fairways' landing zones and all of the modest, raised greens which tend to be tucked into coves surrounded by trees. It can play to 7,015 yards, 73.5/136, course/slope ratings from the tips with four shorter tees, designed in 1927 by Donald Ross and restored by John Fought.
