Putnam County is 55 miles north of Manhattan, off the Taconic Parkway, and to the east, in Mahopac, in the Lower Hudson Valley.

The layout is a compact parkland design along narrow, tree-lined, and rolling fairways with several water hazards in play and modest raised greens well-defended by sand bunkers. The course was designed by William Mitchell in 1955. From the back tees, it is 6,804 yards, 73.3/129, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
