Sonnenalp is a hotel/resort in Vail while the golf club is in an upscale residential community in Edwards 13 miles west.

The layout is an open, links type design with stands of aspen trees at the margins as it journeys through the valley and up into the foothills. It's a scenic course and setting moving through and around open meadows and along streams and sagebrush lined fairways with water features on six holes and an abundance and variety of sand bunkers. It was designed by Bob Cupp and Jay Morrish in the early 1980s and plays to 7,074 yards from the back tees, 72.9/142, course/slope ratings with six shorter tees.
