Tanglewood is 15 miles southwest of Winston-Salem off I-40 on the north side of the Yadkin River in Forsyth County's Tanglewood Park with 18-hole courses.
The Championship course was the venue for the 1974 PGA Championship won by Lee Trevino. It's a challenging parkland layout over rolling terrain and along tree-lined fairways toughened by over 100-fingered sand bunkers and multiple water hazards. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and plays to 6,637 yards, 74.6/140, course/slope ratings from the tips, par of 70 with three shorter tees. The Reynolds course is a milder version of the Championship layout traversing similar terrain with multiple water hazards, but the amount and volume of sand bunkers pale by comparison. It's 6,567 yards from the tips, par of 72, 72.8/137, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by RTJ Sr. as well.
