Timberlake is west of Columbia, on the north side of Lake Murray, on a peninsula that juts out into the Lake.

The layout is a parkland design carved through the pine tree forests of a residential community. It features a varied collection of holes featuring numerous ponds and The Lake in play and sand traps defending the landing zones and greens. It is a Willard Byrd design of 6,579 yards, 72.4/135 course/slope ratings from the tips, and four shorter tees.
