Trout Lake is in the far Northwoods of Wisconsin about an hour northwest of Rhinelander and 10 miles north of Minocqua.

The layout meanders along the north side of the Trout River over rolling topography and along broad, tree lined fairways. There are several slight and dramatic doglegs, numerous ponds and the River in play, and sand bunkers disbursed about the landing zones and defending the small, oval greens. The course provides for a diverse blend of holes and is a well preserved gem from the 1920s. It is fairly short at 6,297 yards, 70.8/130, course/slope ratings from the tips with two shorter tee, originally designed by Frank McDonald with later redesign work by Charles Maddox.
