Avondale is within a residential community west of Avondale, and Lake Hayden is on the north side of Coeur D'Alene in Hayden Lake.

The layout is a parkland-style design through tree-lined fairways over level terrain with several ponds, a moderate amount of sand traps, and doglegs, which help to work the ball off the tee. It plays to 6,573 yards from the back tees, 71.4/126 course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, originally designed by Melvin Hueston in the early 1960s.
