Blackheath is on the north side of Rochester on Rochester Road, across from the Blue Heron Environmental Area.

The course is a links/heathland style layout with the fairways bordered by tall heather or fescue rough. There's frequent sand bunkering along the fairways and greens including numerous pot bunkers with a pond and a stream impacting play on several holes. There are three sets of tees; the championship tees are 6,768 yards (73.0/137, course/slope), and the forward tees, 5,354 yards, 70.8/121, course/slope, designed by Kevin Aldrich in the late 1990s.
