Cypress Creek is across the James River from Newport News and Hampton in Smithfield off US 258 in a residential development

The course wanders through the community with a combination of unique holes along a blend of narrow and broad, fairway corridors defined by trees. There's all combinations of trouble including conventional and waste sand bunkers, numerous water hazards, and features an "Amen Corner" with holes 15-17 providing a fitting finish to the round. It was designed by Ault, Clark & Associates and Curtis Strange, and from the Champion tees is par 72, 74.5/134, course/slope ratings at 7,047 yards with three shorter tees.
