Kebo Valley is on the south side of Bar Harbor marching over a relatively large, natural tract of forested land.
The routing journeys over the rolling terrain along tree lined, fairway corridors with multiple water features and sand bunkers defending the modest greens and the occasional fairway. The course features 6,131 yards, par 70 from the tips, 69,5/124, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees.
Kebo has some interesting history. It is the 8th oldest golf club in the US, founded in 1891. The first six holes were designed by architect H.C. Leeds, three more added in 1911, and the balance in 1920 by locals Waldron Bates and professional Shirley Liscomb. President Taft played here in 1911 and carded a 27 on #17, then known as the Elbow, now to his honor the hole is called the "Taft". Donald Ross, the Scottish golf course architect, wrote the club and suggested strongly that the 3rd hole should be leveled a bit. Apparently it had such an elevation on the approach that a shot that didn't make it to the top would roll back 100 yards down the hill. The club acquiesced and made the change against many of the members wishes.
