Lakewood is a former PGA Tour venue and is located just south of downtown off the Crescent City Connection (US-90S) to General De Gaulle Drive.

The golf course flows over level terrain along mounded fairways defined by cypress and oak trees in a mostly natural setting save for homesites on several exterior holes. It's dominated by water hazards and features the inventive use of sand with long waste areas, pot, and conventional bunkers throughout the fairways and defending the greens. From the tips the course plays to 7,002 yards, 74.1/139, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, originally designed by Robert Bruce with a redesign by Ron Garl.
