Montaup is in the shadow of the Mount Hope Bay Bridge on Mount Hope Bay in Portsmouth.

The layout is a traditional design with the fairways defined by trees and is generally straightforward save for several slight doglegs and the wind off the Bay constantly in play. The fairways are sprinkled with sand traps while the greens are well protected with several water features in play. Other than the adjoining Fall River Expressway, it's a scenic setting throughout and especially so at the 16th overlooking Mt. Hope Bay and Bridge. The course is a classic from the 1920s and plays to 6,375 yards from the blue tees, 70.9/125, course/slope ratings with 3 shorter sets of tees.
