Riverwood is 30 minutes southeast of Raleigh, off US 70 on the north side of Clayton. It has 27 holes in a residential development, including several along the Neuse River.

There's a constant variety to the layout as it moves over a change of elevation with a blend of broad and narrow, tree-lined corridors, an abundance of water features, and sand traps along the fairways and defending the greens. The course was designed by David Postlethwait, with the Riverview/Meadowlands the shortest and most playable at 6,385 yards from the blue tees, 71.4/127 course and slope ratings; Meadowlands/Deer Run-6,836 yards, 73.3/130; Deer Run/Riverview-6,719 yards, 72.7/128, with one longer and three shorter sets of tees.
