Tetherow is southwest of Bend within a residential development off Century Drive west of exit 139 of the Bend Freeway.

It's a heathland layout, essentially a links-style design not set on an ocean. Throughout the round, the course moves through a scenic setting with views of the Cascade peaks, including Three Sisters and Broken Top. It's an Audubon Sanctuary in the high desert over an area that was burned out by a forest fire but spared a few trees, which were incorporated into the layout and come into play on a number of the holes. Some holes are quirky or contrived with heavy mounding, extensive waste areas, and tall grasses through the fairways. The greens seem a bit over the top with slopes, ledges, undulations, and drop-offs, not to mention quick and difficult to hold. There's six sets of tees overall, the middle Tan tees play to 6,495 yards, 70.7/128, course/slope ratings, designed by David McClay Kidd who was responsible for Bandon Dunes and more recently the Castle Course in St Andrews.
