Legacy is located on the southwest of Des Moines off Highway 5 at Sunset Drive to the south partially winding through a residential community.

The layout moves over over rolling, former farmland with a combination of links and parkland design elements providing water hazards in play on just a few holes but sand bunkers defending the fairways and greens. It was designed by Jeff Brauer and is 7,199 yards from the championship tees, 74.7/137, course/slope ratings with three shorter sets of tee boxes.
