Timber Banks is within a real estate development along the Seneca River northwest of Syracuse in Baldwinsville off I-81 North.

The golf course is a parkland-style design that moves through and across woodlands, meadows, and wetlands along contoured fairways with differing shapes and sizes of sand bunkers, providing visual deception off the tee. There are typical Nicklaus design elements of steep, sculptured sand bunkers and greens that are hour-glass shaped or twin-tiered, requiring high approach shots. The layout is 7,331 yards from its back tees, 76.4/144, course/slope with three shorter sets of tees, designed by Jack Nicklaus. In addition, there's a good-sized practice range, an enormous practice putting green, and a short-game facility that includes a chipping green and several bunkers.
