The Road is 50 miles south of Raleigh on the south side of Sanford off US 1. The golf course is a strategically stimulating, engaging, and entertaining roller coaster ride of target golf that will test your skills and imagination.
The golf course navigates the remnants of a sand quarry in a natural setting in the Sandhills. Sand is the dominant feature here, and much like Pine Valley, the fairways and greens are surrounded by sandy waste areas or massive, conventional sand bunker complexes. Various confounding visual illusions created by the dunes, mounds, and natural areas seem to constrict the fairways from the tee, but in reality, there's ample room. The greens are heavily mounded, contoured with perplexing undulations, and are generally quick. The course plays to 6,532 yards from the "Ripper" tees, 71.7/144, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by the late Mike Strantz.
You may want to make the time to play the previously "hidden" loop, the El Camino short course, which, while not designed by Strantz, evokes the same feel and character.
