Atwood Homestead is north of Rockford on the north side of the Rock River.

The golf course is a Winnebago County Forest Preserve layout that ambles over a large tract of land with each hole along isolated and unique corridors. The fairways are lined with trees along with several water hazards and a liberal use of sand bunkers, most of which are surrounding the greens. The golf course was designed by Charles Maddox with four sets of tees from 5,464 yards to 7,431 yards at the tips with the white tees playing to 6,151 yards, 69.0/116, course/slope ratings.
