Crystal Woods is in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, in Crystal Lake, an hour from downtown Chicago and an hour east of Rockford. It has an 18-hole championship layout and the Craig Woods 9-hole executive-style course.

The 18-hole Crystal Woods course is a parkland layout along old-growth, hardwood tree-lined, and hilly fairways with a mix of open and narrow corridors. There's water in play on 7 holes and a modest amount of sand traps positioned along the fairways and guarding the greens. It's generally straightforward save for several slight doglegs and plays to 6,410 yards from the tips, 70.6/128, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees, the initial nines holes by William Langford with an addition and redesign by Charles Wagstaff
