Occoneechee is located near I-85 and the interchange with U.S. 70, 15 minutes east of Burlington.

The golf course is a traditional layout along tree-lined fairways over slightly rolling terrain. Numerous ponds and streams are in play, with several doglegs to negotiate and sand bunkers defend the modest greens. The course was designed by Marvin Ray, the farmer who owned the land, and is not long at 6,311 yards, 69.5/125 course/slope ratings from the tips, with three shorter tees.
