Winterstone is located in northeast Independence about 25 minutes east of downtown Kansas City just off Mo 291.

It's the only golf course built over an active limestone mine where the vibrations from the mining equipment or the blasting underground is ever-present. The course is parkland style over a slight change in elevation along mounded, fescue and tree lined fairways with several water hazards and a moderate amount of sand bunkers. It plays to 6,752 yards from the back tees, 73.6/133, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Craig Schreiner.
