Samuel F.B. Morse, grandnephew of the telegraph inventor, hired golf course architect and California State Amateur Jack Neville to design Pebble Beach in 1919. It's a fabulous setting on the Pacific with a classic lodge and home to the annual "Crosby" PGA tournament. It has held US Amateurs, multiple US Opens including the Watson/Nicklaus duel in 1982, a PGA Championship, and is ranked as the #1 course in the U.S. open to the public.
The golf course flows over gently rolling terrain along broad, tree-lined fairways with strategically positioned sand bunkers along the fairways and guarding the small greens of varying shapes and undulations. The stars of the layout are the 9 holes along the coastline and bluffs of the Pacific including the most photographed 18th hole in the golf. The layout measures 7,040 yards from the tips, 75.5/145, course/slope ratings with four shorter tees.
